Senior Boys Rugby

In 2008, Sardis Secondary won the AAATier2 championship and then moved up to AAATier1. In 2013, Sardis won the AAATier1 division, placed 4th in the Fraser Valley, and qualified for the BC Provincial Championships for the first time. Since then, we have continued to compete stongly for a Provincial berth each year.

2018 update

Boys rugby practices are starting on Monday Jan 29th. Of course, any athletes still in a winter school sport (basketball, lacrosse, etc.) must make that a priority!

We will see how many boys are on the field next week and if we can support two teams this year, but looks like we have a great coaching team in place:

Overall Program Coordination: Mr. Sutcliffe
equipment, field lines, schedule, referees, communication, jerseys, etc.
Senior Boys Head Coach: Rob Leetch
Rob is currently the coach for the Chilliwack Men's Team and has coached our grade 10 team for the past 2 years.
Senior Boys Sponsor Teacher: Mr. Kuhn
Bryan has sponsored the junior team for the past 2 years and worked with Rob.
Junior Boys Head Coach and Sponsor Teacher (if numbers permit): Mr. Sutcliffe

At this point, the following people have volunteered to come help when they can, and there may be a few others as well:
Assistant Coach: Patrick Gallagher
Patrick has coached at Slesse Middle for years, and also helped with our junior program the past 2 seasons.
Assistant Coach: Cam Nay
Cam is an RCMP officer new to Chilliwack but with lots of rugby experience and has offered to help coach around his shift schedule.

Safety Issues

1) Players must be responsible for wearing a mouthguard at all times during practice that involves contact and during games.

2) Players must be responsible for their own water/snacks. Some communal water bottles will be available for games, but their cleanliness is not guaranteed.

3) Players are responsible to dress appropriately for the weather. This includes toque/gloves on cold days, rain jackets for rainy days, and extra clothes for away games.

4) Players are responsible to manage injuries honestly after consultations with parents/coaches/doctor. This is especially important for head injuries and suspected concussions, when players must follow the return-to-play guidelines set out at www.parachute.org and in the following handouts.
